Helping others - our colleagues, customers and communities

Dear colleagues, customers, donors and supporters,

One of the guiding principles here at Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd., is ‘helping others’ and this is at the forefront of our actions as we address the coronavirus crisis. Our utmost priority is the safety of our staff, volunteers and customers, all our families and those we come into contact with throughout our business. We are fully committed to doing the right thing and supporting Government advice.

We are a resilient company with strong values; our people are dedicated to upholding the highest service standards for our customers. We have in place continuity and contingency plans across all our divisions. To enable our business to continue effectively during this time, we have introduced a number of changes, themed on some of the core values that run through our business:

RESPONSIBILITY

We have taken extra steps over and above our high health and safety standards and from the beginning of the crisis asked all colleagues to pay specific attention to hygiene advice to combat the virus. We are actively supporting those who need and want to self-isolate and practise social distancing – this includes enabling a significant proportion of our team members to work from home and introducing a change in rota for support employees.

COMPASSION

We rely on our volunteers, and now is the time for them to rely on us. We have encouraged them to protect themselves and will continue to maintain regular communication with them. We will help keep them and our colleagues safe and secure. Over the past 18 months we have introduced an employee and volunteer wellbeing and communication platform and we are thankful to have this in place at this time.

COMMITMENT

We are continuing to welcome donations to our clothing banks and maintaining a full collection service, reviewing donations at recycling sites on a daily basis and adjusting collections where required. We have 140 van collection drivers on the road each day and our 3 main warehouses in Kettering, Winchester and Wishaw are fully operational. To date the majority of our shops and donation centres remain open and we are extremely grateful for continued donations. Our teams are giving extra consideration to our customers such as wearing gloves, offering contactless payment options and, as things are changing on a daily basis, courtesy calls ahead of home collections to make sure customers are still happy to have a visit.

We are blessed to serve and support many of our friends and colleagues in The Salvation Army to do their important work. This includes SP&S and our music divisions. Although we have done the right thing by cancelling our SP&S roadshows for the foreseeable future, our SP&S online shop, our SP&S shops and studio Music are still accessible and orders are being dispatched daily. The War Cry, Salvationist and Kids Alive publications will continue to be sent out by our teams. World of Sound are maintaining contact with clients on recording projects and staff are available to respond to customers.

Throughout this time, we’ll be 100% focused on doing everything we can to support all our customers and the mission of The Salvation Army. We will get through this together and we will come out at the other end still working for OTHERS, caring for OTHERS and helping The Salvation Army help OTHERS. I believe too, with God’s grace, we will come through this stronger.
