Eager shoppers queued outside the door of a new charity shop ahead of its opening in Widnes. Locals waited in anticipation while the Salvation Army Trading Company shop’s team of staff and volunteers held an official opening ceremony, before bargain hunters were welcomed through the doors at 10.30am on Tuesday 26 April in the Albert Square Shopping Centre (WA8 6JW).
Paul Wright, Head of Retail for Salvation Army Trading Company, officially cut the ribbon to mark the opening. Shoppers were treated to a fantastic range of items thanks to the generosity of public donations. New shop manager, Rachel Hobson, who has worked with the Salvation Army charity shops division for 15 years, and her team, had spent weeks collecting the best bargains for the shop’s displays.
Reports are now in that the first day of trading took well over £600 in sales while the second day did even better, with sales mounting to more than £700.
Rachel, said: “The opening week has been absolutely great so far. The community has been really supportive, and the shop was buzzing when market day was on. I’m really relishing the prospect of a successful future for our new Widnes charity shop.”
The new Salvation Army shop is looking for volunteers and Rachel wants to encourage anybody who’s interested to come along and have a chat about what’s involved. She said: “Volunteers are the life and soul of charity shops and we simply couldn’t do without them. If you can spare a few hours or a few days a week, you will be making a huge difference.”
The Widnes shop is located at Unit 15 (No 27), Albert Square Shopping Centre, Widnes, WA8 6JW (Telephone: 0151 420 8678).
