New Hull donation centre opens

A new Salvation Army donation centre opened in Hull today, Thursday 17th September, offering quality pre-loved furniture, clothes and bicycles to the local community.

The Hull donation centre is the 14th donation centre to open and will raise vital funds to support The Salvation Army's work helping those most in need.

The Hull location is the first donation centre to include Recycles – offering second-hand bicycles safety-checked by a qualified bike mechanic. Recycles is inspired by The Salvation Army’s social enterprise initiative in Swindon which creates opportunities for people who have experienced homelessness and helps them to turn their lives around. The Swindon shop donated an initial stock of 24 bikes to get the Hull donation centre started, but the charity is looking for more donations.

Shirley Kay, the new manager at Hull donation centre, said:

“We are excited to open a donation centre in Hull. It is important for us to be able to bring our fantastic range of quality second-hand items to more customers. We’ve already received a small number of furniture donations and have a free furniture collection service, but our donation centres have proven so successful that furniture sells very quickly and we are always grateful to receive more donations.”

Shirley added: “The Hull donation centre is a great opportunity for us to take pre-loved items, give them a new lease of life and offer them to others in the community. Not only do our customers get great quality at an affordable price, the funds raised will then go further to help The Salvation Army’s work supporting those most in need.

“We would ask anyone who has a child or adult bike tucked away and no longer being used, or if you have clothes you no longer wear in your wardrobes, to please get in touch. We welcome all donations, including good quality wardrobes!”

SATCoL reuse and recycle around 5,000,000 items a week through its network of charity shops, donation centres and clothing banks, that would otherwise potentially go to landfill.
