As Remembrance Day, 11th November, draws closer many of our shops have expressed this in their window displays. Across the country shop teams have gathered to create thoughtful and creative displays incorporating the poppy and other recognisable remembrance items.
One of our shops that have taken part in this is Highcliffe. Staff at the shop were approached by the British Legion to put together a display in their front window commemorating the soldiers who fought and are fighting for our country. As part of this display, a photo was placed in amongst poppies of a young man in military uniform. What the shop didn’t expect was to be approached by a lady of 93 years old about the display. The young man in the photo was her late husband, Bernard, who had served during World War II in the Welsh regiment. The lady commended and thanked the shop for their thoughtful display and for keeping the memory of her husband and all the soldiers who have fought in the forefront of people’s minds over Remembrance weekend.
