Salvation Army's Clothing Collection operation recognised for its commitment to sustainability
Salvation Army Trading Company have been “highly commended” for their work in Environment & Sustainability at The Logistics Awards as recognition of the Clothing Collection division’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The commendation, which was presented to the business on 20th September, saw SATCoL come out ahead of the likes of Heathrow Airport and UPS, and praised for identifying “opportunities for more efficient load management which allowed [SATCoL] to make a major reduction to its CO2 emissions”.
On receiving the certificate, Roland Ralph, Head of Logistics said: “We are always trying to improve our sustainability measures, and through this process we have not only saved costs but reduced our environmental impact. Using larger trailers with more efficient loading, we will save 290 journeys per year, reducing our CO2 emissions by roughly 54.5 tonnes.”
He continued “This review of our haulage is part of a wider organisational strategy to improve our environmental credentials, ultimately working towards zero waste.”
SATCoL is a steering group member of the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan (SCAP) as well as a signatory of the SCAP 2020 Commitment, which is a voluntary initiative that aims to improve environmental and ethical performance. They were nominated for the award by Bedfords and Labrynth, the two logistics companies that work alongside the clothing collection division. Haulage operator Bedfords became a partner with SATCoL as a result of the logistics review and have worked extensively with SATCoL to improve the efficiency of truck movements.
