The Salvation Army’s flagship Glasgow charity shop on Dumbarton Road is hosting a designer sale day on Saturday 6 August. From Jo Malone beauty products to Vivienne Westwood shoes, the shop will be stocked with a wide range of high end preloved items for one day only.
The Salvation Army is trialling an innovative monitoring technology with a proportion of its donation banks. As one of the largest textile reuse and recycling operators in the UK, the charity has fitted 104 collection banks in the East Midlands with FarSite’s netBin sensors to monitor fill levels.
Children at Alpington & Bergh Apton Church of England Primary School have teamed up with The Salvation Army’s schools recycling programme, Recycle With Michael. The Norfolk school started recycling at the start of the year and have donated an impressive 1.5 tonnes of textiles so far; the largest collected total weight of all the schools who take part in the charity’s reuse and recycling bag collection scheme.

Kettering’s Salvation Army is set to launch a brand new bridal wear collection on Saturday 9 July. The charity shop has a selection of over 80 brand new and preloved dresses as well as a large selection of accessories.
Fitness label Lorna Jane has teamed up with The Salvation Army to activate a ‘swap shop’ initiative in London. The already successful ‘swap shop’ activation has previously been launched in Australia and the USA where the initiative helps The Salvation Army raise money to support the most vulnerable people in communities.

Second year students from the BA Fashion Communication & Promotion and BA Fashion Knitwear courses were tasked with creating a collection of fashion concepts using textiles selected from half a tonne of donated fabrics.

A lot of modern fashion is based on previous eras so knowing how to nail the looks of days gone by can give you clues on today’s trends. We’ve put together a guide to the decades, from 1920s to 1990s, using clothing found in our very own stores to demonstrate some of the highlights of the past.
The rain held off in Retford yesterday as a crowd of shoppers gathered to welcome the new Salvation Army charity shop. The doors were officially opened at 10.30am (Thursday 16 June) by the charity’s Major Ray Mackereth at 19 Carolgate.
