Put simply, if you’re a UK taxpayer, a charity can claim an extra 25% from the value of your donation, at no extra cost to you. For example, if you donate £10 to The Salvation Army and you say yes to Gift Aid, they will get £12.50.
Gift Aid works because your charitable donations aren’t taxable. This means you can choose to make sure the charity will get the extra 25% from your donation, not the taxman!
The great thing about Gift Aid is that it can be claimed on clothing donations too. If you go along to one of our charity shops with your unwanted items, make sure you talk to our staff or volunteers about signing up to Gift Aid. All you have to do is sign a form in the shop (or download it now and take a printed copy with you to the shop) and we can claim an extra 25% on the value of your donations for The Salvation Army.
